Girls Basketball Tournament Day

Greetings from the Realm!

Shire Group Leader played head coach today at our 13 & under and 15 & under in-house basketball tournament against Forest Acres. The Shires and Bards teamed up  and the energy on and off the court was absolutely contagious! Following a spirited pump-up filled with music and smiles, the girls took to the court to bring home a 22-18 win! Every girls camp group was in the audience cheering for the team with signs and, of course, classic Robin Hood-styled cheers and chants. It was quite the morning!

The rest of the day was filled with awesome activities and out-of-camp excursions: Scouts and Tumblers took their swimming tests down at the waterfront, the Quills played intense rounds of Gaga, Squires and Archers rallied on the tennis courts… we sent out campers of all ages on an optional mountain hike on Rattlesnake, and our Yeomen and Lancers had a crazy fun trip to play knockerball!!

Evening activities included scavenger hunts, pontoon boat rides during a gorgeous sunset, pajama jumping, backward scavenger hunts, and challenges between different groups — it was a gorgeous and fun-filled night. After sunset, camp began to wind down as we all headed to our cabins; the stars appeared, the air chilled, and once again we geared up for another wonderful day in the Realm…

Sweet dreams from us all!

Baseball Games, Road Races, and Secret Summer Sister

Yesterday after a morning of intensives we sent our oldest boys and girls groups to a Sanford Mainers baseball game in Sanford, Maine. As usual, the campers enjoyed your typical baseball food as well as some good baseball on a Sunday evening.

While those groups enjoyed evening baseball, camp held its first annual 3k road race before dinner. Around 40 kids and staff members participated and we had a raucous and supportive crowd at the finish line! Congratulations to Archer Colton Stratman for winning the race! Next week, we will be sending many campers to the surrounding town of North Conway to participate in a 5k road race titled Tunnel to Towers. The race was created to honor the life of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001. The race happens to fall on Robin Hood Gives Back day as we will spend the day thinking about and reflecting upon what it means to give back and to live a life of charity.

Girls Camp held its annual Secret Summer Sister (SSS) campfire where every girl in girls camp, including staff, chooses another girls name out of a hat secretly and then has a week to give them notes or presents. Then, next campfire each girl reveals who they had as a Secret Summer Sister.

Goodnight from the realm!

Camp Robin Hood Newspaper: These and Those Issue 1

As you know, Robin Hood is all about traditions. Some date back to 1927 when Andy founded camp. Some, like Senior Camp Beach Day, are new this year.
Today we combined old and new with the return of a longstanding tradition – the camp newspaper – to the Realm. Please enjoy Issue #1 of These ‘N Those (TNT).
We are so proud of the campers who wrote articles and the counselors who spearheaded the effort. This publication is well on its way to earning a Pulitzer!

A BIG Day in the Realm at Camp Robin Hood

It was a big day here in The Realm. I know we say it a lot but it is always true. Every moment of our day is filled with excitement and anticipation of what is happening next and today was no exception. During breakfast Woody announced that the Friars and Foresters would be going on a mountain trip. This means that every group has had the opportunity to climb a mountain in the first two weeks of camp.

Today Robin Hood hosted our annual 12U soccer tournament with 8 other camps in participation. Unfortunately Robin Hood was not victorious today but our boys played hard and made it to the finals.

We had a great day of activities as well. Tye Dying is in full swing in the arts and crafts shack and everyone is busy with friendship bracelet production. We are trying out a new photography class this summer and have been posting the campers own photos online, so be on the lookout for those in the evenings. It is really neat to see camp from the campers perspective in photos.

Monday will mark the beginning of our girls camp athletic tournaments beginning with 13U soccer. We will also be participating in a 13U and 15U basketball tournament this week. We are excited to see our girls play we know they will represent Robin Hood well.

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us.

A Busy Day in The Realm

My name is Peter Cohen, and I am a first year aide. Being on camp for 8 summers as a camper and then joining the staff has been an incredible transition. Although I learned a lot about this place as a camper, being a counselor has given me a completely different perspective. Watching kids dance in the same dining hall and play on the same fields as I once did, evokes an exciting nostalgia in me. It simply reinforces the lesson that I learned throughout my years: the more you learn about camp, the more you realize there is always so much more to learn.

These past few days have been quite busy in the realm. Today, we hosted our annual 13u and 15u boys’ basketball tournament. Although hot, it was an exciting day of competition as Winaukee went home victorious in the 15u tournament while Tecumseh beat Winaukee in the final of the 13u tournament. Our Robin Hood teams fought hard. While this was happening at camp, the Arrows were busy climbing Rattlesnake Mountain. All else is well here as we sadly say goodbye to some members of our camp family tomorrow, but we know we will see them all again soon. Sweet Dreams from the Realm!
